what we look for

While our tastes are broad, we look for three things in all categories: excellent writing, masterful interpretation of our chosen theme, and emotional engagement. To get a better idea of what we publish, look through our archives.

Fiction and Creative Nonfiction: Send us stories that make us question the world we live in and lead us to envision new ones. We welcome stories that deal with life's grittiness and complexity; however, we are not a good fit for fiction featuring explicit sexual content or gratuitously graphic violence.

Word count max: 1500

Poetry: Send us poems that peel back the surface layers of everyday experiences and heartaches. Please note we are not a good fit for prose poetry, and we'll only accept rhyming poetry if it has a strong, consistent structure.

Word count max: 500
